The Korean film industry has yet another hit on its hands with the release of Dream. Starring superstars IU and Park Seo Joon, the film has topped the South Korean box office, becoming the first Korean film in 50 days to do so.

Released on Wednesday, Dream attracted an audience of 93,400 on its first day, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which also premiered on the same day and drew in 89,600 viewers. The film is distributed by Plus M, who was the one to break the impressive box office results on Thursday.

Directed by Lee Byeong Heon, popular for his previous film Extreme Job — which sold 16 million tickets in 2019 — Dream is a comedy based on the true story of a football team consisting of homeless players who participate in the “Homeless World Cup.” The Homeless World Cup is a football championship that brings together teams of homeless players from all over the world.

The movie revolves around Yoon Hong Dae, a star football player played by Park Seo Joon, who unexpectedly finds himself coaching a team of homeless players. Along the way, he meets Lee So Min, played by IU, an unenthusiastic documentary producer who is shooting a film about the team….
