Arthur Russell 7″ Cover Series Announced
Experimental label Unheard of Hope has announced a new 7″ series featuring artists covering their favorite Arthur Russell songs. The series, titled Small Wonder, includes recordings by Peter Broderick, Stereolab’s Lætitia Sadier, Russell’s collaborator Peter Zummo, Mabe Fratti, and more.
The first 7″ will be a split of Peter Zummo’s “Tone Bone Kone” and Peter Broderick’s version of “All-Boy All-Girl.” Both tracks include appearances from Mabe Fratti, Sebastian Rojas, and Joe Carvell (aka Pink Shabab). The record is available digitally today and will arrive on 7″ later via the Unheard of Hope. Hear the tracks below.
“‘All-Boy All-Girl’ has been one of my favourite Arthur Russell tracks for years,” Broderick said in a press release. “I never thought to cover it before because, like most the material on the World of Echo album, it is hard to pin down what exactly the song itself is. What is the song, what is the production, and what is the performance? It’s all very amorphous, and I love that about it. When asked to cover an Arthur track for this project, I thought I’d finally give this song a try. And with the help of Mabe Fratti and her friend Sebastian Rojas, I hope we have created a worthwhile tribute to this song which has brought me to tears many times.”
