Gwyneth Paltrow has finally found a way to make use of the gold Oscar statuette she won in 1999. “My doorstop,” she jokes in a new Vogue “73 Questions” video. The moment comes as Gwyneth shows off her luxurious backyard in New York’s Hamptons region. As the interviewer says, “and what a beautiful Academy Award,” the camera pans down to the ground, where the award sits between a tile and the bottom of a garden gate, propping it open. “It works perfectly!” Gwyneth quips in the video.
A rep for Gwyneth assured Variety, “of course, it’s a joke,” and pointed to a recent New York Times interview in which she reportedly retrieved the statuette from a room in her home. But Gwyneth, who won the best actress Academy Award for her turn in “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999 at age 26, has said the Oscar makes her feel uncomfortable.
