Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral — the first the United Kingdom saw since former Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s in 1965 — took place on Sept. 19, 2022, at Westminster Abbey in London 10 days after she died on Sept. 8 at Balmoral, her summer home in Scotland. She was then laid to rest in a crypt inside St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
